Occassional News – 1st November 2019

Applications for the patronage of the new 1,000 pupil Post-Primary closed on 4th October. “White Smoke” announcing the winner will eventually be posted HERE.

While it is planned to open the school in September 2020 no planning application has been submitted as yet.

Meanwhile some temporary classrooms for Primary School pupils have been opened by Educate Together on the site for the temporary 2 storey, 12 classroom school. Click: HERE.

The issue of priority of access to both new schools is a matter of considerable controversy. The catchment area as defined by the Department of Education (Dublin6_Clonskeagh & Dublin_6W) is a narrow segment stretching from Ranelagh to Tymon Park that excludes children living on the West side of Harold’s Cross Road – ie. Greenmount, Parnell Road etc. For the map click: HERE.

2.    BusConnects – Revised proposals for all of the Corridors and Routes have been published.

“Bus Gates” are to be erected on Kimmage Road Lower near the KCR Pub and close to McGowan’s at the Park. The really good news is that this means that it will not be necessary to take away any front garden space.

Private cars will be permitted to travel as normal on LKR between the bus gates and around adjoining roads. However they cannot pass through the bus gates and so will divert through the adjoining roads – raising issues of peak-time “rat-runs” etc.

Kimmage Road Lower will have 3 bus routes each with frequencies of 10 to 15 minutes – 18 per hour or every 3 minutes approx. – in each direction. Travelling into town they will travel down Clanbrassil Street, turn left at Patrick Street Corner, go around St Stephen’s Green and off to Charlestown via O’Connell Street, Parnell Square and Dorset Street.

Sundrive / Clareville Roads are part of the “S Orbital” routes. The S2 bus will go from Sean Moore Road to Heuston Station serving Sandymount, Ballsbridge, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Kimmage, Rialto & St James’s Hospital.

The S4 route will go from UCD to Liffey Valley via Bird Ave, Dartry, Terenure Road, KCR, Crumlin, Kylemore Rd and Ballyfermot.

Harold’s Cross Road will have only the 16 bus with a revised route and schedule. It will travel from Tallaght to Parnell Square via Ballyboden, Terenure, Harold’s Cross, Clanbrassil Street, Dame St and O’Connell Street.
