Spleodar Irish youth club, Friday 18 May between 7pm-9pm at the Rosary Pastoral Centre

This year the Festival is delighted to help Spleodar celebrate its 20th anniversary by hosting a youth club entirely as Gaeilge on Friday evening 18th May from 7pm-9pm at the Rosary Pastoral Centre, Harold’s Cross. Spleodar is a not for profit Irish language youth organisation which aims to develop an appreciation of Irish in teenagers and educate them in co-operation and leadership skills by running residential courses as Gaeilge in the heart of Connemara during the summer months. Spleodar places huge emphasis on the importance of after-care, and they run Irish language Youth Clubs in towns around the country by trained “Feightlithe” (3rd level students), thus enabling students to see Irish as a living language in their local community. This event will be run along the lines of one of those youth clubs. It is especially suited to teenagers who have attended an Irish summer course, and will provide them with an opportunity to meet up and partake in games and activities through the medium of Irish. The youth club will be led and supervised by Emily Ní Ríabhaigh, one of Spleodar’s Feightlithe. Note that you do not have to have attended either Spleodar or any other Irish summer course to participate – an enthusiasm for Irish is all that is required! Spleodar rules will apply – Irish only to be spoken at the event.
