“Sceptre’s Bloomsday”

  • Location: McGowans, Harold’s Cross Park, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W.
  • Details: The Ascot Gold Cup took place on Thursday, 16th June 1904 and in Ulysees, Joyce tells the story of the great race that captured the imagination of DublinSceptre's Bloomsday on that day.  The race featured the mighty “Sceptre”, the greatest filly of all time, a horse that carried the bets of a great many Dubliners on the day.  Actor Michael Judd will read an excerpt from “Sceptre’s Bloomsday” by Stephen Kane, an adaptation from Ulysses which describes the build up to and the outcome of the race.  Coincidentally, the Ascot Gold Cup will be run on Bloomsday this year!  Organised by Dublin City Council in partnership with Harold’s Cross Village Community Council.  Free event, no advance booking necessary.
