Dublin Community Clean-Up takes place from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday 27th April 2019, proudly supported by the four local authorities.
Building on the success of previous calls to action – Dodder Action Day, Dublin Canals Action Day, Team Dublin Cleanup and Dublin Waters Action day – this year all have come together to make this Dublin’s biggest volunteer cleanup on our streets, canals, rivers, mountains and coastline. There’s a big meitheal happening in Harolds Cross on Saturday the 11th of May at 10 a.m. ahead of the 10th Annual Festival (HX X). We want to get the place looking really well for the thousands of people who will be around Harolds Cross for all the various events taking place. Equipment will be provided by Dublin City Council who will also collect all the gatherings at the end of the day. Meet at the top of the park.
1. A meeting of the Harold’s Cross Community Festival team takes place in the Pastoral Centre beside the Rosary Church on Monday the 15th of April at 8pm. Everybody who has an idea for the Festival, which takes place in week commencing May13th, or would like to join the organising team is invited to attend.
2. The old monastery at Mount Argus is reported to have been sold to Equitas Properties. The previous owners, Vieira Ltd, had been granted permission for a 92 bedroom Nursing Home in 2011. In 2014 however they applied for permission for 33 apartments and 9 town houses. Following an appeal to An Bord Pleanála the nine town houses and one apartment were refused and permission for 32 apartments was granted Details: HERE.
3. Earth Hour takes place on Saturday next March 30th from 8:30-9:30 pm and will offer an opportunity to “join millions around the world to turn off the lights and speak up about why nature matters.”
Marlet has applied to add a fifth storey on 3 blocks adding an additional 28 apartments- total 200. They’re also changing the Landscape Plan.

PROTECTED STRUCTURE: Amendments to previously permitted development Reg.Ref. 2186/15 (An Bord Pleanála Ref.: PL29S.245164) as amended by Reg.Ref. 2825/17 on a site of c. 1.7 ha. The application site includes a Protected Structure RPS Ref.No.: 3583. The proposed amendments consist of the following: – Alterations to proposed Blocks E, F, G (Reg.Ref. 2825/17) to increase the height of the Blocks from 4 no. storeys (13 m) to 5 no. storeys (16 m), the additional storey in Block F will be set back on the eastern elevation at 4th floor level (5 no. storey); – The additional storeys on Blocks E, F and G will provide for 30 no. units (13 no. in Block E, 5 no. in Block F and 12 no. in Block G) and will comprise of 5 no. 1 beds, 18 no. 2 beds and 7 no. 3 beds. – Replacement of 2 no. 3 bed units at ground floor level of Block G with a crèche c. 254 sq.m. Harolds Cross has a higher percentage of Irish speakers than elsewhere in Dublin according to the last CSO census. We’ve had 2 other popup Gaeltachts in Peggy Kelly’s and McGarry’s in late 2018 and there was a great crowd with all sorts of levels of Irish. Both the Lower Kimmage Road Residents Association (LOKRA) meeting in McGowan’s on Friday February 15 and the NTA’s “public consultation event” in the Charlemont Hilton on Monday February 18 were well attended.
